UNIVERSITY STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP

FOR ARCHITECTURAL STUDIES

The Barbados Institute of Architects (BIA) invites eligible applicants to apply for a BDS $40,000 scholarship to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies at the Caribbean School of Architecture, University of Technology, Jamaica, beginning in September 2025 or January 2026. The scholarship is also open to students currently enrolled in the programme.

ELIGIBILITY AND CONDITIONS:

  • Applicants must be a citizen of Barbados.

  • Applicants will be required to provide proof of acceptance or current enrolment in the above accredited course in Architecture at the University of Technology, Jamaica for the September 2025 / January 2026 year.

  • The maximum value of the scholarship will be BDS $40,000 or part thereof - The funds will be evenly disbursed annually over the duration of the program (3 or 4 years for the Bachelor’s Degree).

  • Payment will be made directly to the Caribbean School of Architecture, University of Technology on behalf of the scholarship recipient.

  • The scholarship award will be withdrawn from any recipient who does not start the course/program of study without a reasonable excuse subject to the discretion of the BIA Council.

  • The Scholarship recipient will be required to provide proof of passing each academic year to receive the next year’s allocation.

  • Should the scholarship recipient not complete their degree program, they will be required to repay the value of the scholarship utilised to the date of termination, subject to the BIA Council’s decision.

  • The scholarship recipient must agree to complete a minimum of 300 hrs of approved Barbados volunteering activities within the 4 years of their program of study covered by the scholarship. A shortlist of suitable activities will be provided by the BIA Council.

  • The scholarship recipient must be a Student Member of the Barbados Institute of Architects for the duration of their course program. If not an existing member, the recipient will be required to join the BIA upon starting their course program.

 

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Your full name, address, e-mail and telephone contact information

  2. One (1) passport sized photograph

  3. Two (2) letters of recommendation or the names of two (2) references

  4. Proof of citizenship (certified copy of Barbados Passport)

  5. Proof of acceptance to the requisite course/degree program

  6. A 1,000 word essay outlining why you should receive this scholarship

  7. An A4 or A3 sized Portfolio of relevant material (design projects/drawings/sketches, etc) –

    maximum 10 pages

DEADLINE: All applications must be submitted via email to admin@bia.bb by 15th August, 2025

INTERVIEW: Select applicants may be required to attend an interview with the assessment committee on the 20th August, 2025

ASSESSMENT: Submissions will be evaluated by a Scholarship Assessment Committee appointed by the BIA Council and all applicants will be notified of the decision by the 25th August, 2025
