CAREER OPPORTUNITY
WITH THE 
BIA

Title: BIA Executive

Reports to: The BIA Executive Council

Minimum Credentials: A relevant construction/ design professional undergraduate degree, and practical work experience in the industry.

Skill Required: Knowledge of administrative and accounting programs such as Microsoft Office (Suite); Outlook; and Quickbooks. Knowledge of website building applications (WIX is preferred).

Hours: 20 hours per week
Position: Flexible / On Contract

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote the role of the BIA and enhance its visibility and influence in the development of architects and architecture in Barbados through various initiatives and in collaboration with the BIA Council and its members.

  • Assist in the maintenance and increase of BIA revenue streams through expanded membership, advertising initiatives, and other promotions in collaboration with the BIA Council sub committees and social media manager.

  • Receive, review and action correspondence to the BIA and disseminate information to the relevant categories of membership on behalf of and as approved by the BIA executive council where necessary.

  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of relevant legislation and industry regulations, and disseminate information to membership.

  • Deputise or substitute as the BIA representative at related public and private meetings, and reporting on matters discussed.

  • Upkeep and maintenance of BIA representation on relevant boards and committees including the securing of periodic reports for dissemination to the council and wider membership when necessary, and notifications for replacement of representatives.

  • Coordinate internal and external BIA events to include, but not limited to, the annual general meeting, seminars, webinars, and social events in collaboration with the BIA Council and sub committees.

  • Manage the administrative tasks associated with the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) initiative including outreach, planning, promotion, record-keeping, and issuance of CPD certificates to all attendees (BIA and non-BIA).

  • Establish, review, update and manage office systems, record keeping and data management.

  • Create and revise forms, procedures, formats, and standards for the secretariat where required.

  • Manage the maintenance of financial records of the BIA and prepare documents and liaise with the auditors for year end financial audits.

  • Financial management and operations including, but not limited to, the regular maintenance of financial records of the BIA, preparation of financial documents and engagement with auditors for end of year fiscal reviews.

  • Monitor and coordinate content for the BIA website and social media presence in collaboration with the BIA Social Media Manager and BIA Council as needed.

  • Attend and report to the BIA Council at monthly meetings.

  • Manage the maintenance of IT systems (software and hardware).

  • Assist in the maintenance of a clean and tidy work environment.

  • Comply with the terms of the Employment Agreement and Employee Handbook.
